Saudi Arabian entertainment and sports schedule uncertainty

Overview

The uncertainty surrounding the Riyadh Season schedule persists as security concerns and regional tensions continue to disrupt major events. The Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition in Riyadh remains rescheduled for December 27–30 following its postponement from October due to “organizational and logistical challenges” and security incidents, including attacks on Aramco infrastructure and King Khalid International Airport.

New disruptions have emerged as the conflict with Houthi rebels impacts international sporting schedules. The Global Champions Tour finale, which features an 11.25 million euro prize pool, has been relocated from Riyadh to Verona, Italy, after being originally scheduled for November 18–21. These shifts highlight potential vulnerabilities in Saudi Arabia’s strategy to utilize its Public Investment Fund (PIF) to host massive global events.

While the WWE Crown Jewel event remains officially scheduled for November, the Saudi General Entertainment Authority continues to face uncertainty regarding the broader Riyadh Season. Although the organization has discussed potential backup venues in the United States for WWE, other events like the Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli boxing match are still expected to proceed.

Security concerns have previously led to the postponement of the FIFAe Finals 2026 in Jeddah and various Saudi Pro League matches. The Asian Football Confederation continues to monitor the situation, noting that the 2027 Asian Cup could face delays until 2028.
