SBB railway construction and service disruptions

Overview

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has announced several service disruptions due to planned construction work across the network.

In mid-September 2026, SBB cancelled special fan trains for the FC Sion vs. FC Zürich football match due to extensive construction on the Visp–Brig and Bex–Villeneuve lines. While regular services continued via the Lötschberg Base Tunnel, SBB noted that safety and operating constraints prevented additional fan-specific transport.

Following this, SBB scheduled a weekend rail closure from September 25 to September 28, 2026, between Zürich Oerlikon and Bassersdorf. This disruption, intended to facilitate double-track expansion and station modernization, involves diverting regional lines S7 and SN7 and providing replacement bus services. Long-distance IR36 services will also experience minor schedule adjustments.
