School bullying concerns in South America

Overview

Regional surveys and expert analyses have identified bullying as a primary concern for families in South America. In Buenos Aires, research indicates that 70% of families with primary school children and 50% of families with secondary students view bullying as a major worry. In Chile, experts have specifically warned of “silent bullying,” a subtle form of harassment involving social exclusion and isolation that is difficult for educators to detect.

In Argentina, the situation escalated following an incident at the Pía Didoménico Private School in San Fernando. The Ministry of Education and Labor intervened after social media footage surfaced showing alleged student aggressions, unauthorized mobile phone access, and the non-consensual distribution of intimate material.

Following the incident, community members held protests at the school, demanding swift criminal proceedings regarding digital harassment and privacy violations.
