School violence incidents in New Taipei City

Overview

A teacher in New Taipei City reported being physically assaulted by a male student, involving being pushed into a wall and punched, which necessitated two emergency room visits.

The New Taipei City Education Bureau reported that the student has exhibited disruptive behavior since November of the previous year, including attacking peers and teachers, damaging property, and extortion. While the student has been removed from regular classes for individualized guidance, the teacher expressed frustration with the Bureau’s request for a “relationship restoration” process, describing it as a “secondary injury.”

The Bureau stated that professional counseling teams have been assisting the school and pledged to provide legal consultation and psychological support to affected teachers. Schools are also being instructed to prepare crisis management mechanisms for the upcoming school year.
