Scotland major road crash incidents

Overview

On 31 July 2026 a serious collision on the A9 near South Birnam involved a grey Audi A4 and a white Scania HGV. The 46‑year‑old Audi driver was killed and the road remained closed in both directions for more than 12 hours before reopening in the evening.

A few days later, two separate multi‑vehicle crashes caused further disruptions. On 5 August 2026 a four‑vehicle accident on the A830 west of Corpach near Fort William forced the road to close in both directions, prompting police, fire and ambulance crews to advise motorists to avoid the area. On 7 August 2026 a collision on the A90 near Ellon again blocked traffic in both directions, with Police Scotland and Traffic Scotland directing drivers to alternative routes.

These incidents illustrate a short‑term spate of serious road accidents across Scotland’s major routes, each resulting in temporary closures and significant travel delays.
