Seasonal worker support in Lleida
Overview
During the agricultural season in Lleida, local authorities and charitable organizations have implemented measures to address the housing and social needs of seasonal workers.
The Lleida City Council concluded its emergency housing arrangements at the Fira de Lleida pavilions in late August. During the campaign, the council’s Single Office assisted 1,676 individuals, a 64% increase from the previous year. While large-scale pavilion accommodations have closed, approximately 130 places in apartments and the Caparrella Seasonal Worker Assistance Center will remain available through the end of September.
Simultaneously, Càritas Diocesana de Lleida provided assistance to approximately 190 vulnerable people through various campaign centers in Alcarràs, Vilanova de la Barca, Torrelameu, and Corbins. Most individuals assisted originated from Senegal, Ghana, and Guinea. The organization’s program provides essential services, including housing searches, food and hygiene distribution, basic healthcare, and emotional support to workers living in precarious or substandard conditions.
