Sebastian Stan casting and production status for The Batman:

Overview

Reports regarding Sebastian Stan’s role in Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman: Part II’ have fluctuated between confirmation and speculation. While initial reports suggested Stan confirmed he would play Harvey Dent in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche, subsequent updates indicated the quote was an error and was removed. In revised versions, Stan maintained strict confidentiality.

During the Toronto International Film Festival, Stan discussed his transition from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Universe, comparing the film's scale to ‘The Godfather: Part II’. While rumors suggest he may portray Harvey Dent or Victor Zsasz, his specific character remains officially undisclosed. During a recent appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Stan jokingly responded to character inquiries by stating, “I’m Batman. Who else would I be?”. He revealed that Matt Reeves cast him after seeing his work in ‘The Apprentice’ and noted that Reeves has spent three years developing the script. Stan also noted he had previously attempted to secure a role within James Gunn’s DC Universe before being offered this part.

Production is currently underway in the United Kingdom, with filming having recently commenced in London. However, Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed that production has been temporarily paused after director Matt Reeves stepped away to focus on a family matter. While the halt introduces uncertainty regarding potential scheduling delays, the film—starring Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, Colin Farrell, Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan—is currently still scheduled for a theatrical release on February 18, 2028. The film is expected to follow the events of the HBO series ‘The Penguin’.
