Security measures in Jammu and Kashmir

Security measures in Jammu and Kashmir have been intensified in preparation for Independence Day celebrations and the Budha Amarnath Yatra. In the Rajouri district, personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force, Central Industrial Security Force, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and Special Operations Group have been deployed to strategic points to protect pilgrims and national celebrations. Following these deployments, security has been further bolstered across the Kashmir Valley and Jammu region. High-level meetings involving the BSF, CRPF, and CID have led to increased patrolling, area domination, and strengthened checkpoints. Specific focus has been placed on Srinagar, particularly around Bakshi Stadium, as well as sensitive areas near the Line of Control, the International Border, and the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

As India approaches its 80th Independence Day, security agencies have further intensified area domination and increased night patrolling. Advanced surveillance, including drones and electronic monitoring, has been deployed to ensure peaceful celebrations. Local officials have noted a shift in the public mood, observing increased participation in national celebrations compared to previous years.

On the honors front, President Droupadi Murmu has approved a wide array of awards. A total of 1,057 personnel from the police, fire services, home guard, and correctional services have been selected for Gallantry and Service Medals. This includes 301 Gallantry Medals, with significant numbers awarded to personnel in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas and Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, 78 gallantry awards were approved for the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces, including nine Kirti Chakras and 19 Shaurya Chakras, several of which were awarded posthumously to honor those who died in the line of duty.
