Security operations and confrontations in Oaxaca

Overview

Following an armed confrontation in Acatlán de Osorio involving Puebla state police and suspects targeting cargo theft, the Oaxaca State Attorney General's Office (FGEO) denied that its agents were involved in the shootout. Although an abandoned vehicle containing Oaxaca State Investigation Agency (AEI) branded clothing was found at the scene, the FGEO stated no staff were assigned to that area at the time.

Subsequently, law enforcement conducted simultaneous searches in San Miguel Panixtlahuaca. During these operations, which were supported by the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), and the National Guard, officers faced heavy gunfire. The AEI repelled the attack, resulting in two agents sustaining superficial injuries. Three individuals identified as members of ‘Grupo Operativo 666’ were arrested, and an arsenal of weapons was seized as investigations into narcotics trafficking continue.
