Security reinforcement in Torreón, Mexico

Overview

Authorities in Torreón, Coahuila, have initiated measures to strengthen local security through both resource investment and operational protocol reviews.

Initially, Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and Torreón Mayor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís delivered a 70 million peso reinforcement package to the Municipal Public Security Directorate. This investment provided 40 new patrol cars, weapons, ammunition, and specialized equipment intended to improve response times and intelligence capabilities.

Following this, the city council shifted focus toward reviewing security protocols in public spaces and municipal sports courts. This review was prompted by incidents of violence and brawls linked to alcohol consumption and sporting disputes. Proposed measures to secure areas such as Línea Verde and various urban forests include increasing private security presence, conducting periodic patrols by the Municipal Public Security Directorate, and analyzing sanction mechanisms for regulatory violations.
