Security situation and militant activity in Mali
Overview
The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have reported significant military activity and security incidents across the country. In a six-month summary spanning May to October 2026, the military claimed to have neutralized over 4,880 combatants and destroyed numerous militant bases and vehicles.
In the Ménaka region of northeastern Mali, a joint patrol discovered 54 bodies at a camp in Tagadayat. Survivors attributed the massacre to the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (EIGS), noting that attackers arrived on motorcycles and targeted camps inhabited by members of the Daoussaak community. In response to the violence, authorities are coordinating the relocation of threatened residents toward the city of Ménaka to enhance protection.
Additionally, the military has conducted targeted strikes under ‘Operation Dougoukoloko’ against terrorist positions in the Koulikoro and Mopti regions, including neutralizing groups in the Kenenkoun and Bozola sectors.
