Sefa tax enforcement operations in Pará
Overview
The Pará State Secretariat of Finance (Sefa) has conducted several operations to seize goods due to tax irregularities involving the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS).
In late October, authorities in São Geraldo do Araguaia seized three shipments of beer valued at approximately R$ 1.1 million. The inspection revealed underpaid taxes via tax substitution, with declared invoice values significantly lower than market rates. The seized goods were destined for Altamira and Marabá.
By early November, Sefa expanded its enforcement actions across the state. In Novo Progresso, officials seized 120,120 cans of beer valued at R$ 336,336.00 after finding the declared value was only about 14.5% of the established weighted average consumer price. In Conceição do Araguaia, over 30,000 bottles of beer valued at R$ 450,477.70 were seized for insufficient ICMS collection.
In a separate incident in Palestina do Pará, inspectors seized over 47 tons of mineral products that were falsely documented as a one-kilogram soil sample.
