Seismic activity in Da Nang and Quang Ngai provinces

Overview

In late August 2026, a series of six earthquakes occurred in Mang But, Quang Ngai province. The tremors, ranging from magnitude 2.6 to 4.0, were attributed by experts from the Institute of Earth Sciences to induced seismicity, potentially linked to water accumulation in reservoirs. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences, noted that such activity can occur in cycles and may persist for years, though it is unlikely to exceed a magnitude of 5.5.

By late September, seismic activity expanded to include the highland areas of both Da Nang and Quang Ngai provinces. A total of eight earthquakes were recorded over a two-day period around September 20 and 21. These tremors, with magnitudes between 2.5 and 3.0, occurred at a focal depth of approximately 8.1 km. No casualties or property damage have been reported, and the disaster risk level remains at zero.
