Selçuklu Municipality environmental initiatives in Sille

The Selçuklu Municipality in Konya has initiated several environmental and sustainability programs in the Sille area.

Initially, the municipality implemented a management system for the Sille Dam using sedimentation basins. This system captures approximately 15,000 tons of sand, soil, and similar materials annually to prevent sediment accumulation, preserve water storage capacity, and protect aquatic habitats. About 10,000 tons of these materials are processed at a washing and screening facility and redistributed for municipal uses, such as playground sand and field fill.

Following this, the municipality expanded its efforts through a zero-waste awareness campaign. Under the slogan ‘Step for Nature,’ the municipality organized a large-scale environmental cleaning event in the Sille Neighborhood. The initiative involved various community groups, including students, youth assemblies, and the TEMA Foundation, to collect waste and promote environmental consciousness. Mayor Ahmet Pekyatırmacı indicated that these monthly activities are part of a broader mission to ensure a cleaner and more livable environment.

Recent reports confirm that Selçuklu Municipality continues to conduct these environmental cleaning activities in the Sille neighborhood. These ongoing efforts involve local students, volunteers, and the TEMA Foundation to foster environmental responsibility and promote zero-waste awareness. In September 2026, Selçuklu Municipality, alongside Meram Municipality, continued to organize community cleaning events involving students and volunteers to promote zero-waste awareness. Regional reports from late September 2026 confirm that municipalities in Selçuklu, Meram, and Iğdır have continued to organize these community cleaning campaigns to promote zero-waste awareness and environmental responsibility.
