Senegal FDR electoral integrity challenges

Overview

The Front pour la Défense de la Démocratie et de la République (FDR) has initiated several legal and administrative challenges regarding electoral processes in Senegal.

In August 2026, the FDR filed a challenge with the Supreme Court, accusing the government of violating the electoral code. Led by coordinator Modou Diagne Fada, the opposition argued that delays in issuing decrees, such as the election deposit amount, constituted a “de facto postponement” of territorial elections that should occur by January 17, 2027.

By September 2026, the FDR expanded its focus to electoral transparency, formally requesting that the Constitutional Council systematically publish all decisions. The group alleged that while contentious rulings are published promptly, advisory decisions face significant delays, which they claim creates a ‘flagrant violation of equal access to information’. During this period, the FDR also engaged with the West African Network of Electoral Management Structures (RESAO) to discuss strengthening electoral frameworks.
