Senegal gas infrastructure development

Overview

Senegal has officially commenced construction on the North Segment of its national natural gas transport network. The project began with the laying of the first 85-kilometer pipeline in Gandon, intended to connect the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) gas hub to the Gandon power plant.

The infrastructure includes 45 kilometers of offshore pipeline and 40 kilometers of onshore pipeline, designed to transport up to 300 million cubic feet of gas per day. Minister of Energy and Petroleum Dr. Abdourahmane Diouf stated the project aims to use national gas as a “lever for development,” allowing the country to manage its own resources and reduce economic exposure to imported fuels. He noted that improvements to electricity costs will depend on the efficiency of the entire value chain.
