Senegal Special Cybersecurity Division detentions
Overview
The Special Cybersecurity Division (DSC) in Senegal has detained multiple individuals following investigations into public statements and legal complaints.
Columnist Mamadou Cissé was taken into custody following allegations he made regarding the Nourah Ba affair. Cissé had claimed that an undercover officer provoked Ba with insults and that she was denied access to a restroom while in police custody. Supporters, including Babacar Ba of the Forum du Justiciable, have called for judicial leniency, noting Cissé’s lack of a criminal record and his stance against xenophobic discourse.
In a separate investigation, Ndèye Leïla Sow, president of the Union for Progress and Renewal of Senegal, was placed in custody following a complaint by the collective And Samm Jikko Yi. Sow is accused of spreading false news, defamation, and public insults during a broadcast on the YouTube channel Public SN. The complaint specifically alleges that her remarks attacked the honor of members of the collective, including imams.
