Seoul youth employment and AI literacy initiatives

Seoul-based initiatives to support youth employment and technological literacy have expanded through partnerships between local government, universities, and private platforms.

Initial efforts focused on the ‘Seoul Young Career’ (Seoyoungkeo) program, which provides work experience through a five-stage course including internships. The career platform itdaa has partnered with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to implement AI-based competency assessments to match students with suitable roles. This program has seen increased demand, with university participation growing from 31 to 37 institutions.

Further developments include district-level agreements, such as in Jung-gu, to align university curricula with industry needs through customized education and job matching. Additionally, the G3 Seoul Planning Committee introduced the ‘Youth AI Ladder’ initiative, designed to prevent an ‘AI divide’ by providing access to generative AI tools and establishing AI lounges near universities. These efforts are being paired with plans to revitalize university commercial districts to support a sustainable ecosystem for youth growth.
