Overview

Personal accounts from survivors of the September 11 attacks provide insight into the experiences within the World Trade Center towers.

In the North Tower, Edna Cintrón, an administrative assistant, became a symbol of the tragedy after being documented seeking help from within the impact zone. Meanwhile, Inez Ribustello, a manager at the Windows on the World restaurant, survived the attacks because she was out of state, though 79 of her colleagues perished.

In the South Tower, Stanley Praimnath and Brian Clark were among only four individuals identified as having survived above the impact zone. The two men met on the 81st floor amidst smoke and fire and successfully navigated 1,620 stairs to escape the building.
