Serbia advances robotics and battery manufacturing hub

Serbia is advancing a high-tech manufacturing initiative, referred to as ‘Operation Inđija’, aimed at establishing the nation as a regional hub for robotics and advanced battery production.

As part of this strategy, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić met with representatives from the Chinese firm Jiangsu Reliance Energy Tech to sign a framework agreement for a 100.5 million euro battery factory in Inđija. This facility will produce specialized batteries for drones, humanoid robots, unmanned vehicles, electric tools, and household appliances. The location was chosen to support an industrial park dedicated to robotics and drone technology, benefiting from proximity to Belgrade and Novi Sad to secure a necessary workforce.

The initiative has expanded with the inauguration of Serbia’s first humanoid robot factory in Šabac, operated by the Minth Group in collaboration with Shanghai-based AGIBOT. This initial €20 million investment aims to establish a manufacturing hub with plans to eventually produce up to 20,000 units annually, including humanoid robots, robotic dogs, and drones. The facility is expected to initially employ approximately 200 people.

Broader strategic plans include a planned €200 million Robotics Industrial Park in Inđija, a robot training center in Kragujevac, and the development of a Serbian language model for robotic communication. While technology is intended for civilian use in agriculture, healthcare, and industry, President Vučić noted that the Serbian Armed Forces will demonstrate robotic platforms equipped with remote-controlled weaponry within 15 days.
