Serbian folk and food festivals

In late July 2026 Serbia’s cultural calendar featured a series of regional festivals that highlighted both culinary traditions and intangible heritage. On July 27 the 20th Belmužijada in Svrljig and the 23rd Dani Bureka in Niš attracted tens of thousands of visitors, promoting local cheese‑and‑flour dishes and the iconic burek while boosting tourism. A few days later, on July 30, the village of Donja Bela Reka hosted the annual Sabor narodnog stvaralaštva, a folk‑art assembly celebrating the Ognjena Marija feast. The event gathered cultural societies from several towns, presented traditional songs, dances, costumes, and even a beauty‑queen contest and a small‑football tournament, underscoring community efforts to preserve and pass on regional customs.

Together these events illustrate a broader push across Serbia to celebrate and commercialise its folk and food heritage, drawing large crowds, fostering local pride, and encouraging cross‑border participation from neighboring countries.
