Serbian military training exercises

Overview

In mid-September, the Serbian Armed Forces conducted a three-day tactical training exercise involving the 72nd Special Operations Brigade near Lake Perućac, close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The maneuvers included drone use, swimming with combat equipment, and movement through steep terrain. While the Serbian Ministry of Defense described these as annual summer exercises to improve readiness, the activity caused concern among residents in nearby Bosnian settlements like Klotjevac due to heavy gunfire and military boat movements.

By mid-October, further military activity in the Pasuljanske livade region caused alarm in the Serbian village of Stubica. Residents reported distress over gunfire in village streets and claimed military personnel instructed citizens not to film the activities. The Serbian Ministry of Defense clarified that this was a planned inspection by the Defense Inspectorate to assess a special unit’s capabilities in an urban environment, asserting that only training ammunition was used and that local authorities had been notified.
