Overview

Severe storms with tornado-like characteristics have caused significant destruction across parts of Paraguay and Argentina.

On August 31, a violent storm struck the Itapúa department in Paraguay, specifically impacting Bella Vista and Edelira. The event caused structural damage to at least 51 homes, with approximately 10 houses completely destroyed. Emergency services, including the National Emergency Secretariat and the Volunteer Firefighters Corps, were deployed to manage collapsed structures, fallen trees, and downed electrical infrastructure.

By mid-September, severe weather continued to impact the region, expanding into the Misiones province of Argentina and the Caazapá department of Paraguay. In Misiones, high-intensity winds and heavy rain affected over 150 families and resulted in at least one fatality. In Caazapá, districts such as Yuty and 3 de Mayo reported damage to roofs and vehicles alongside power interruptions. Authorities in both countries have activated emergency assistance to support affected residents.
