Overview

Heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions in El Salvador have led to a series of accidents and emergencies. On September 6, multiple traffic accidents across various districts, including La Libertad and San Salvador, resulted in at least 19 injuries. Many of these incidents were attributed to poor visibility and heavy rain, affecting motorists and pedestrians alike.

By September 13, persistent rainfall and strong winds caused further incidents, including a large tree collapse in San Salvador. The collapse trapped seven people inside four vehicles near the ISSS Atlacatl medical unit. While emergency responders rescued the individuals and no serious physical injuries were reported, several victims required care for “severe nervous crises.” The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) noted that significant rainfall and electrical activity continued to impact several departments.
