Sexual crime convictions in Sweden

Recent judicial proceedings in Sweden have resulted in convictions for sexual offenses involving minors. In one case, a teenager was sentenced to 110 hours of community service after being convicted in Kalmar District Court of two counts of sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old in Gothenburg. The defendant admitted to the acts but denied criminal intent; however, the court ruled that sexual acts with children under 15 are inherently criminal. The defendant was acquitted of separate rape charges due to insufficient evidence regarding the use of force.

In a separate matter, the Norrköping District Court sentenced a man in his 50s to six years and six months in prison for seven counts of rape and one count of sexual harassment. The court found the perpetrator exploited his position as a foster parent in Östergötland. The victim, a 17-year-old, had reported the abuse to social services, school officials, and psychiatry services, but remained in the home until she recorded audio evidence of the advances. Following the incident, Sundsvall municipality reported itself to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (IVO), acknowledging serious deficiencies in its communication and procedures.
