Sexual harassment allegations at Indonesian universities

Overview

Multiple Indonesian universities have faced allegations and protests regarding sexual harassment involving faculty members. At Universitas Pasundan, thirteen female students reported misconduct within the Faculty of Law, involving between four and six lecturers. Students demanded psychological assistance, legal aid, and a reconstruction of the university’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force. Indonesian House of Representatives officials called for transparent investigations and strict administrative or criminal sanctions.

Similarly, at UIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, students organized demonstrations under the theme “UIN Moral Emergency” to protest frequent harassment and slow bureaucratic responses. Protesters alleged that some cases were being improperly settled through offers of money, housing, or academic leniency. While the university inaugurated a Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force, student leaders criticized the timing and demanded better socialization of reporting procedures to ensure victim anonymity.
