Sexual violence survivor protests and legal actions in LATAM

Overview

Legal developments regarding sexual violence and abuse continue to emerge across Latin America. In Argentina, Oscar Antonio Dávila was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the long-term sexual abuse of his two stepdaughters in Río Grande, while another individual received a 12-year sentence in Santa Fe for abusing two family members. Additionally, nine individuals were detained in Villa de María de Río Seco for sexual abuse and grooming involving teenagers.

Recent reports indicate further developments in Argentina, where legislative advisor José Aníbal Ricardo Villarreal was detained for the alleged grooming and sexual abuse of minors in Córdoba.

In Colombia, former Vice Minister of the Interior Diego Cancino has been charged with aggravated sexual violence following allegations from a contractor regarding alleged violent sexual acts during a work meeting. A community leader in Meta was also arrested for the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old.

In Mexico, legal proceedings are progressing in several regions. This includes the sentencing of two individuals in Puebla for the rape of a girl, the prosecution of a man in Nezahualcóyotl for sexual abuse and robbery, and charges against a man in Ciudad Juárez for the rape of an 11-year-old. A woman in Ciudad Juárez also faces charges for domestic violence.

In the Dominican Republic, José Miguel Dipré received a 10-year sentence for the sexual and psychological abuse of a six-year-old girl.
