The findings indicated decreased activity in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC), regions associated with decision-making and cognitive control.
Subsequent reports expanded on these findings, noting that the deactivation of these regions may impact self-control, logic, and planning. Dr. Allison Hensley, a pediatrician at Loma Linda University Children’s Health, noted that the rapid pacing of algorithmic feeds may create a “dopamine-driven reward loop similar to substance abuse,” which could potentially hinder a child’s ability to maintain focus and deep learning.
