Sicilian regional administrative and fiscal measures
Overview
The Sicilian regional government has implemented several measures to address economic and connectivity issues for residents. To combat high flight costs and mitigate the disadvantages of island living, the region extended airfare discount measures for residents until November 30, allocating 13.5 million euros annually for the 2026–2028 fiscal years. This includes an agreement with Wizz Air for direct booking discounts and efforts to maintain essential routes like Alghero-Milan Linate through extensions with Ita Airways.
In fiscal policy, the Sicilian Regional Assembly approved an extension for the ‘Stracciabollo’ program. The deadline for the facilitated settlement of regional debts has been moved from October 31 to December 15, 2026. This amnesty allows taxpayers to regularize debts incurred up to December 31, 2025, by paying only the original principal amount, with all penalties and interest waived. The program covers vehicle taxes for the years 2016 through 2025, as well as 41 other types of regional tax and patrimonial revenues.
