Sicily social welfare and assistance funding
Overview
The Sicilian regional government has implemented several measures to support vulnerable populations through social welfare funding.
In late September, the region reopened applications for the ‘reddito di libertà’ (freedom income). This initiative provides economic support to women victims of violence who are experiencing economic vulnerability and are assisted by anti-violence centers or shelters. The funding is intended to facilitate housing and professional autonomy through expenses such as rent, training, and equipment for professional activities.
Following this, the regional department for family and social policies approved 5 million euros for 24 Public Institutions of Assistance and Charity (Ipab). According to Assessor Nuccia Albano, these funds are intended to ensure service continuity for the region’s most vulnerable populations by covering staff salary supplements and social security contributions.
