Siena economic and heritage development initiatives

In late August 2026, the Province of Siena and the Tuscany Region signed the ‘Agreement for the relaunch of the Siena territory.’ This strategic protocol aims to transition from reactive emergency management to proactive governance to prevent industrial crises and protect employment. The initiative involves a coalition of trade unions, the Chamber of Commerce, the MPS Foundation, local universities, and municipalities. It establishes a Permanent Coordination Table focused on five pillars: crisis prevention, investment scouting, labor policies, infrastructure planning, and credit protection, with a specific working group dedicated to issues regarding Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

By late September, the focus in Siena expanded to include discussions on urban heritage and long-standing business legacies. Events included the ASPPI Siena provincial congress, titled ‘Siena 2035. People, heritage and future,’ which addressed sustainability and economic innovation for UNESCO World Heritage historic cities. Additionally, the Unione Imprese Centenarie Italiane held a meeting to discuss how historical businesses can leverage intellectual property to maintain competitive advantages.
