Sikh truck driver stabbing in Wyoming

Overview

A 28-year-old Sikh truck driver, Gurvinder Singh, was the victim of an unprovoked stabbing at the Bitter Creek rest area on Interstate 80 in Wyoming. The attacker allegedly followed Singh into a restroom, where he sustained multiple wounds to his neck, chest, and ribs.

Law enforcement arrested 45-year-old Andrew Kris Bzdak in nearby Carbon County. Evidence, including video footage, reportedly showed the suspect following the victim into the restroom, after which the wounded driver was seen stumbling out. A family present at the rest area assisted authorities by tracking the suspect’s vehicle.

While the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Department stated that a motive has not yet been established, the incident has caused significant alarm within the Sikh and South Asian communities. Community leaders and industry representatives have expressed concerns regarding rising anti-immigrant sentiment and anti-Sikh vitriol, with some linking the tension to recent debates over commercial driver’s licensing requirements.
