Sila Nano US Battery Expansion and Pentagon Loan
Overview
In late July 2026, Sila Nano announced a $300 million private-equity round led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures to fund Phase 2 of its Moses Lake, Washington plant. The expansion aims to raise output to as much as 250 GWh within five years and accelerate production of its Titan Silicon anode material.
In early August, the U.S. Department of Defense issued a conditional loan commitment of up to $1.4 billion to support the expansion of Sila’s silicon-carbon anode and lithium-ion battery cell facilities at Moses Lake. This funding includes the construction of a new cell plant designed for specialty applications, such as industrial, agricultural, and military drones, as well as markets involving energy storage, AI, and data centers.
The loan, administered by the Pentagon’s Office of Strategic Capital, aligns with the Trump administration’s policy to onshore critical materials and reinforce the U.S. defense industrial base by reducing reliance on foreign sources for vital battery components.
