Silesia Marathon running festival

The Silesia Marathon has expanded into a three-day running festival, reaching a record 15,000 registered participants. The event includes various distances, such as a 5K run, 10K run, half marathon, full marathon, and a 50-kilometer ultramarathon.

As the festival commenced, races took place across several cities in Upper Silesia, including Chorzów, Katowice, Mysłowice, and Siemianowice Śląskie. While some initial races were held within Silesian Park, major traffic disruptions were anticipated for the Sunday races through city streets. The Silesian Stadium serves as the start and finish point for the major races.

In Siemianowice Śląskie, a large fan zone was established on Fitznerów Street to support runners during the final stages of the marathon, featuring music, food trucks, and nutrition stations.

For the 17th edition of the event, participation has grown to over 17,000 participants. The marathon, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, will involve extensive road closures across Katowice, Mysłowice, Siemianowice Śląskie, and Chorzów. In Katowice specifically, 33 streets and intersections are expected to be closed, with some restrictions lasting until 14:30. Siemianowice Śląskie will host the marathon’s longest fan zone between the 35th and 36th kilometers, offering various musical and sporting attractions.
