Skopje urban and cultural initiatives
Overview
Skopje has launched several civic and institutional initiatives. Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski initiated a large-scale ecological campaign involving volunteers to clean over 50 public locations, with plans to hold these activities twice monthly. To support waste management, the city is introducing new machinery and 3,300 containers.
In terms of infrastructure, the city is in discussions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development regarding a Bus Rapid Transit system and a wastewater treatment plant in Trubarevo.
Cultural and educational activities are also underway, including the 11th Open Days of the Institute for Macedonian Language ‘Krste Misirkov’, which focuses on the protection of the Macedonian standard language. Additionally, the city is hosting the Erasmus Cross, a sports event organized by the National Agency for European Educational Programs and Mobility to conclude the Erasmus Days initiative.
