Slovak National Party election alliance strategy
Overview
The Slovak National Party (SNS) has shifted its stance regarding political alliances ahead of upcoming elections. Initially, party chairman Andrej Danko rejected the formation of pre-election alliances, stating the party would run only with its own members and undergo internal changes in the autumn. Danko criticized the political system and emphasized that the party would no longer tolerate issues “unrelated to SNS.”
However, the party later expressed interest in negotiating cooperation with the extra-parliamentary movement Republika for the regional and municipal elections scheduled for October 24. The SNS leadership authorized Danko to discuss potential candidate support, such as backing Milan Mazurek for the Prešov Self-Governing Region in exchange for support for Adam Lučanský in the Žilina region. The party indicated that these regional efforts could serve as a signal for uniting national forces in future parliamentary elections, noting they are also forming coalitions with Smer-SD and Hlas-SD.
