Slovenian legislative and healthcare reforms

The Slovenian government is pursuing several legislative changes affecting public administration and healthcare. Initial proposals included amending laws regarding the use of national symbols on public buildings to ensure institutional neutrality, alongside plans to establish a public fund for treating rare diseases in children.

Concerns were raised by the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia regarding potential budget cuts that could threaten financial stability and lead to payment delays for providers.

Subsequently, various medical organizations, including the Coordination of Medical Organizations and the Young Doctors of Slovenia, expressed support for the healthcare components of the proposed Interventional Act for the Development of Slovenia. These groups view the act as a means to correct legislative difficulties, such as improving the organization of medical staff and extending transition periods for compliance with the Medical Activity Act. They also warned that a referendum rejecting the broader act could delay these necessary medical corrections for at least one year.
