Slovenian political controversy involving Boris Mijič
Overview
In early September 2026, approximately 2,500 protesters gathered in Ljubljana to demand the resignation of MP Boris Mijič, the government, and the calling of early elections. Organized by the civil initiative Glas ljudstva, the demonstration focused on grievances regarding healthcare, labor rights, and the privatization of public services.
Following these protests, political pressure intensified as the Resnica party began deliberating disciplinary measures against Mijič. The party is considering expulsion following allegations of financial misconduct and academic misrepresentation. Investigations by the Labor Inspectorate and the Commission for the Prevention of Corruption reportedly identified irregularities involving Mijič’s company, Progros. Additionally, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy at the University of Ljubljana stated that Mijič is “not registered as a graduate,” contradicting claims made to the State Election Commission regarding his educational background.
