Consequently, opposition lawmakers from the Freedom Movement, Social Democrats (SD), and Levica filed a formal request with the Constitutional Court for a review of the Local Elections Act, including a proposal for a temporary suspension of the law. The challenge targets amendments passed in mid-June that revoke local voting rights for third-country nationals with permanent residence. MP Andreja Katič argued these changes were implemented without sufficient analysis, noting that these residents pay taxes and work within their communities.
