Small business and agricultural credit expansion in Brazil

Overview

Financial institutions and regional agencies in Brazil are expanding credit access and financial guidance for small businesses and rural producers.

Initially, Banco da Amazônia focused on providing credit services and information at major agricultural fairs in Northern and Northeastern Brazil, such as Expoema and Expoama. These operations targeted various profiles, including family farmers and micro-entrepreneurs, with credit amounts ranging from R$ 20,000 to R$ 274,000.

Efforts have since expanded to include organized credit rounds and training programs in the state of Amazonas. In Humaitá, Sebrae Amazonas facilitated direct comparisons of financing terms between micro-entrepreneurs and six different financial institutions. Meanwhile, in Boa Vista, the Municipal Entrepreneurship Agency (AME BV) implemented training on responsible credit use as a requirement for the Cresce+ credit line, which provides up to R$ 10,000 per participant to support production capacity and infrastructure improvements.
