Heavy rain on August 1 caused flash flooding in the Gia Phù commune of Sơn La Province, Vietnam, sweeping three children from the village of Chèo Bau. By the morning of August 2, rescue teams had recovered two bodies and continued the search for the third victim. Local authorities mobilised a joint task force of about 125 personnel—including provincial disaster‑prevention officials, commune leaders, police, border guards and volunteers—to conduct night‑time searches, monitor weather conditions and coordinate rescue efforts. The flooding also triggered landslides that damaged agricultural land and blocked nearby roads, prompting additional response measures from the provincial People’s Committee and the commune’s disaster‑prevention command.
