Snoop Dogg biopic rollout

Universal Pictures has confirmed that the biographical film “Snoop,” chronicling rapper Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus, will open in cinemas on August 6, 2027. The R‑rated picture is directed by Craig Brewer, who rewrote the original script by Joe Robert Cole, and stars Jonathan Daviss (known for “Outer Banks”). Production is a partnership between Snoop Dogg, Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, and Death Row Pictures—the media arm Snoop launched after acquiring Death Row Records in 2022—making it the first feature released under that overall deal with Universal.

The film will trace Broadus’s rise from his Long Beach, California roots, early collaborations with Dr. Dre and Tup Shakur, the 1993 release of *Doggystyle*, and his evolution into a global entertainment and business icon. The soundtrack will draw from Snoop’s extensive catalog under the supervision of NBCUniversal music executive Mike Knobloch. Universal chairwoman Donna Langley described Snoop as a “singular icon” of popular culture, underscoring the biopic’s aim to deliver a definitive portrait of his life and legacy.

A recent media profile linked Snoop’s 1994 Louisiana marijuana arrest to his broader career trajectory, reinforcing the narrative of his transformation from a controversial rapper to a mainstream media personality. Filming is slated for summer 2026, with the release schedule unchanged.
