Overview

Transport authorities in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region have introduced new initiatives to assist commuters with travel costs.

In early September, the ‘Credencial para Trabalhadores Desempregados’ (Unemployed Workers Credential) was launched. This program provides up to 90 days of free travel on CPTM trains and Metro lines for individuals who have been unemployed for at least 30 days and are actively seeking work. The initiative is intended to facilitate movement for job interviews, training, and essential services.

Later in the month, the Secretaria dos Transportes Metropolitanos introduced the Cartão Fidelidade. This program allows passengers using only rail transport to purchase travel credits in advance at progressive discounts. Available packages include 8, 20, or 50 trips, offering savings of up to R$ 0.72 per trip compared to the standard fare. Unlike the unemployment credential, this discount does not include fare integration with buses and requires a R$ 2 fee for card issuance.
