São Paulo state teacher recognition and bonuses

Overview

The Government of São Paulo has implemented the ‘Professor Nota 1.000’ award to recognize pedagogical excellence among state school teachers. The initiative serves as the final stage of the ‘Prêmio Professor Nota 10’ program, which previously honored 25,000 educators through regional stages.

Selection for the top 1,000 awardees was determined by a methodology involving teacher attendance, professional performance evaluations, and student results from the State School Performance Assessment System (Saresp). Regional recognition included 133 teachers from the Campinas area and 19 from the Carapicuíba regional teaching unit.

Alongside the awards, the State Secretariat of Education announced the allocation of R$ 1 billion in bonuses to more than 188,000 teachers based on Saresp results. The administration also noted the resumption of promotion exams offering a 10.5% base salary increase and the upcoming opening of 5,000 civil service positions.
