Social welfare and disability support in Southern Italy

Overview

In Salerno, new initiatives have been launched to address social fragility and support vulnerable populations. During the Philantropea event, discussions emphasized consumer protection as a method of social prevention to combat poverty and isolation. Additionally, the Fondazione Anffas Caressa ETS established a Solidarity Fund to provide individuals with disabilities and their families with faster access to essential therapies and rehabilitation services.

Following these developments, the municipal administration of Siderno and the Social Territorial Area of Caulonia announced several social policy programs. These include care allowances for residents with severe disabilities and specific socio-sanitary income thresholds, as well as the ‘Vita Indipendente – Reti per l’Autonomia’ program, which offers personalized paths toward autonomy through assistive technologies and housing solutions. Furthermore, Siderno has initiated a program to provide non-specialized personal assistance services for non-self-sufficient individuals, funded by the 2025 Poverty Fund.
