Social welfare and poverty reduction in Vinh Long
Overview
Vinh Long province is implementing various initiatives to improve social welfare and promote sustainable poverty reduction. The provincial Red Cross and the Vinh Long Cooperative Alliance have established a cooperation agreement to transition humanitarian aid from emergency relief toward proactive prevention and sustainable livelihood development. This program targets vulnerable groups, such as women, people with disabilities, and the poor, through community needs surveys, management training, and the promotion of digital transformation and e-commerce.
Concurrently, the province has mobilized significant social welfare resources. Between October 2025 and September 2026, the ‘For the Poor’ Fund collected 156.5 billion VND, while the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its members mobilized over 711.2 billion VND from other sources. These funds support practical needs including housing, medical care, education, and livelihoods. Specific programs, such as the ‘Accompanying Orphaned Children’ model, provide monthly financial support to children in need across several communes to assist them until they reach age 18.
