Social welfare and tourism initiatives in Tamaulipas

Overview

In Tamaulipas, Mexico, local authorities have implemented various social welfare and community engagement programs. In late October, approximately 4,000 residents registered for Bienestar pension programs, including the Mujeres Bienestar program for women aged 60 to 64 and senior pensions for those 65 and older. The delegate for Bienestar Programs, María de Lourdes Puente Vizcarra, noted that these programs currently serve roughly 1.1 million beneficiaries in the state.

Following these registration efforts, the Tamaulipas Secretariat of Tourism, working with DIF Tamaulipas and DIF Tampico, launched inclusive tourism initiatives. In early November, 70 individuals, including senior citizens and people with visual and auditory disabilities, participated in a free trip to Gómez Farías. The excursion included visits to the El Cielo Biosphere Ecological Park and La Bocatoma 2 Ecotourism Park. Tourism Secretary Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez stated the goal is to provide recreational and cultural experiences to vulnerable populations.
