Sofia transportation infrastructure development

Overview

Sofia is undergoing several major transportation infrastructure projects. In the metro expansion, the tunnel boring machine ‘Vitosha’ reached the Sitnyakovo station, completing approximately 3,750 meters of a six-kilometer extension for Metro Line 3. This project, funded with 58.4 million euros, aims to connect Oborishte, Slatinа, and Mladost, with six new stations expected to be ready by the end of 2027.

Simultaneously, construction is nearing completion on the Pancho Vladigerov metro station, which is approximately 90% finished. Designed as an intermodal transport hub for Metro Lines 1 and 2, the station is expected to open in the summer of 2027. Additionally, SOF Connect has launched preparatory construction for a future Terminal 3 at Vasil Levski Airport Sofia, an initial phase involving an investment exceeding 7 million euros to build a new transport center and relocate underground infrastructure.
