Solar energy development in Argentina and Colombia
Overview
Solar energy infrastructure is expanding across South America through various regional projects. In Argentina’s Chaco province, four operational solar parks provide 255 MW of capacity, supplying approximately 183,700 homes and preventing an estimated 305,900 tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions. Research indicates that including seven additional projects in development, the total capacity in the region could reach 390 MW.
Further developments include a collaboration between the state distributor Enersa and the municipality of San Salvador in Argentina to build a photovoltaic park aimed at stabilizing local distribution lines. In Colombia, the Panachi Solar 1.8 plant is scheduled to inaugurate in December at Chicamocha National Park to power local tourism facilities and reduce the area’s carbon footprint.
