Solar power adoption in Singapore

Overview

Institutional and corporate entities in Singapore are increasingly adopting solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) to manage energy costs and reduce carbon footprints.

In early August, the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) entered a 14-year agreement with Peak Energy to install a 900 kW rooftop solar photovoltaic system at its Clementi Road campus. The project is designed to generate approximately 1,100 MWh of clean electricity annually, allowing SIM to purchase power at rates at least 45% lower than current prices without upfront capital expenditure.

By mid-August, Equinix signed its fourth solar PPA in Singapore with Flo Energy Singapore to support its data center operations. This agreement will initially add at least 11.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) of solar capacity via industrial and commercial rooftops, with an option to expand to 50 MWp. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to reach a 215 MWp renewable energy portfolio in Singapore by 2028, addressing the high energy demands of digital infrastructure and regional regulatory pressures for lower-carbon electricity.
